Demerara syrup

Demerara syrup

A richer syrup with a caramel note. A good swap for sugar syrup in rum- and whiskey-based drinks.

Ingredients

  • Demerara sugar200 g
  • Water100 ml

Method

  1. Combine the demerara sugar and water in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir until the sugar fully dissolves, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  3. Take it off the heat and let it cool to room temperature before using it: warm syrup melts the ice and waters the drink down. Keep it in a tightly sealed bottle or jar.

Yield

Makes about 250 ml

Keeps

Tightly sealed in the fridge, it lasts up to 1 month
